I love my satellite dish. Its the window to the world of wonderful stories on the ABC podcasts. Can’t be done on dial-up. AND I don’t see a fibre coming anywhere near Point Sturt for a very long time…

Mobile phone to ring family when I have my free hour. Internet as an encyclopedia. Internet to pay bills. Computer to find out prices and compare and buy. Sewing machine and overlocker to sew. Digital camera and video to record family and nature.
I use my computer for online shopping (buying and selling), I’m constantly sending and receiving emails from family and friends (I have 2 daughters overseas and I communicate with them via emails, text messaging, Facebook and telephone calls). I have friends all around SA and I’m in contact with them via emails and Facebook on a regular basis. I am also permanently attached to my mobile phone, mainly using it to text message. I also use the computer for online training courses, storing heaps of photos and music, for online applications and researching travel and holidays. Good luck with your research!
With mobile phone and messages messages too, I keep up to date with what to do, for Meals on Wheels I volunteer, and clients chat with news and cheer. A computer I have but no internet, for that to happen, need lessons to get.
All of the above. Connection speeds are woeful and mobile fall in and out of service. We really need good connections out here because we are many Kms from the nearest town and services. SMS is the most reliable form of communication. My story: in the recent Mayo by-election we used Twitter. I think it has potential for more than social networking and could be an important feature of rural communities but it would need to be cheaper and maybe run from a local server
